The steering box in the C2 Corvette sits very close to the exhaust manifold, so the grease gets extremely hot when the engine is running. For this reason, Corvette steering boxes are filled with chassis grease (rather than oil) to prevent the lubricant from leaking out through the seals when the box is hot.
This Steering Box Greasing Tool replaces one of the bolts on the steering box top cover with a hollow bolt that has a grease nipple fitted. This makes it easy to fill the steering box using a grease gun.
